Pharmacological effects

Synthetic thyroid hormone replaces thyroid hormone deficiency. It increases oxygen consumption in tissues, stimulates tissue growth and differentiation, accelerates basic metabolism (protein, fat and carbohydrate). It has anabolic effects in low doses and catabolic effects in high doses. Inhibits thyroid hormone production. It improves energy processes, has a positive effect on the nervous and cardiovascular systems and on liver and kidney function. The maximum pharmacological effect occurs after 2-3 days.

Take indoors 30 minutes before a meal. At the beginning of treatment, it is recommended to prescribe 1/2 tablet to adults. Triiodothyronine 50 Berlin-Chemie daily (equivalent to 25 mcg). It is recommended to increase this dose by 1/2 to 1 tablet every 2 to 4 weeks. The average dietary dose is 1 to 1,5 tablets of Triiodothyronine 50 Berlin-Chemie.

Contraindications for use

  • Hypersensitivity to the medicinal product;
  • untreated thyrotoxicosis;
  • Coronary heart disease (myocardial infarction, angina pectoris of functional class III-IV);
  • acute myocarditis;
  • untreated adrenal insufficiency;
  • Cachexia.

Caution in tachycardia; tachyarrhythmias; angina pectoris functional class I-II; heart failure; diabetes mellitus; elderly.

Pharmacological effects

Use during pregnancy and lactation
Triiodothyronine 50 Berlin-Chemie is not recommended for use during pregnancy as part of combination therapy of thyrotoxicosis with thyroid medicinal products because it may cause fetal hypothyroidism.

Use in elderly patients
Caution: in elderly patients.
Special instructions
In elderly patients with functional class I-II angina pectoris, heart failure and some forms of cardiac arrhythmias (tachyarrhythmias), careful dose adjustment and frequent medical monitoring are required.

Excessive doses of liothyronine manifesting as thyrotoxicosis should be avoided, especially in cases of functional class I-II angina pectoris, heart failure or tachyarrhythmias. In hypothyroidism resulting from pituitary damage, it should be determined whether adrenal insufficiency is also present. In this case, treatment of adrenal insufficiency should be initiated before thyroid hormone therapy.

The following symptoms of thyrotoxicosis occur in overdose: palpitations, palpitations, tachycardia, cardiac pain, tremor, irritability, insomnia, increased sweating, increased appetite, decreased body weight, diarrhoea, headache, dysmenorrhoea.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your doctor may recommend reducing your daily dose, stopping treatment for a few days, or prescribing beta-blockers. Once the side effects have disappeared, treatment should be started cautiously with a lower dose.

Interactions with medicines
Decreases the effect of hypoglycaemic drugs, increases the effect of indirect anticoagulants, vasoconstrictors.

Colestyramine decreases absorption of liothyronine. Oral contraceptives reduce the effect of liothyronine. Phenytoin, salicylates, dicumarol, furosemide (high dose), clofibrate, antidepressants, cardiac glycosides, ketamine increase liothyronine concentration and risk of side effects.

Effects of Cytomel

The effects of Cytomel are generally the same regardless of the intended use, whether for the treatment of hypothyroidism or to improve fat loss in performance status. In both cases, the hormone acts as a direct copy of the T3 hormone. Regardless of the original reason for use, both individuals should burn fat. The hypothyroid patient should now have a more properly functioning metabolism that aids in fat breakdown. Often this is welcome because the person may have accumulated enough fat due to thyroid disease. Fat breakdown is simply accelerated to improve performance.

No matter why you are taking Cytomel, although it will increase the metabolic rate, you will need to follow a diet. If you want to get rid of fat, you need to consume more calories than you take in. If you take in more than you consume, not even the Cytomel in the world will help you. However, if a person is already producing sufficient amounts of T3, it may be the case that under performance conditions, they can maintain a slightly higher total calorie intake than without T3 and still lose weight. With Cytomel, the rate of calorie burning is increased as excess T3 hormone is introduced.

The ultimate effect of Cytomel is due to its anabolic nature. Some argue that Cytomel has an anabolic advantage because it enhances the anabolic effects of anabolic steroids. The idea is that anabolic steroids provide better utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and as mentioned, Cytomel improves the metabolism of these nutrients. Together, they could theoretically improve the condition of the entire body. Although this theory exists and is considered fact by some athletes, it is not reliable. Most will find that they need to rely on Cytomel only for its intended purpose.

Cytomel Side Effects:
Cytomel is generally considered a hormone that is very well tolerated by most healthy adults; healthy adults, except in cases of hypothyroidism. Cytomel side effects are most commonly associated with high doses of the hormone or overdose, but human nature cannot be ruled out as playing a role. Possible side effects of Cytomel:

  • Headache
  • Sweating
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Nervousness
  • increased intestinal peristalsis
  • Menstrual disorders
Effects of Cytomel

Very high doses or an overdose of the hormone T3 may also lead to possible complications. Cytomel side effects in this category include:

  • angina
  • Shock
  • chronic heart failure
  • Hyperthyroidism

In general, Cytomel is a very safe thyroid medication, but misuse, especially when taking high doses long-term, can be life-threatening.

The last side effect of Cytomel that we will discuss is hypothyroidism. Many people are cautious about taking this hormone because conditional hypothyroidism can occur after stopping the hormone. It is thought that if you stop taking this product, your body will no longer produce enough T3 and you will begin to become obese. While it is possible to become dependent, this is unlikely if used correctly. Proper use depends not only on the dose and how long you take it, but also on how you stop taking it. You should not stop taking the medicine abruptly. To allow the thyroid gland to recover, the dose should be reduced to a maintenance dose for a short time. In a healthy person who has not abused Cytomel, recovery should not be a problem.
